About Next Station

The Next Station series relies on the understanding that, in today’s interconnected world, we all have an impact on and are affected by our own communities and countries, as well as by many other communities around the globe. In this sense, to become engaged global citizens, the children need to develop cross-cultural awareness, caring about their own context and cultivating appreciation of cultural diversity and common humanity.

Being culturally aware and globally educated is key to taking a stand towards the protection of the Earth and its resources, as well as of each other as humans. The United Nations 2030 Agenda, an international agreement that encompasses 17 goals related to human rights and well-being, fair access to resources, and environmental protection, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), shows that a sustainable future will only be achieved through proper actions that must be taken now and need to be collective, global, diverse, and inclusive at the same time.

Key Features

1. FLEXIBILITY: The course is highly adaptable and fully flexible, in both print and digital formats, with comprehensive built-in optional components and extension activities for teachers to tailor the program to perfectly suit the needs of their classes.

2. CULTURAL AWARENESS: It enhances the children’s cross-cultural awareness by introducing different places around the world through pictures, illustrations, folkloric narratives, cultural facts, and extensive personalization.

3. MULTILITERACY: It approaches literacy through a broad range of texts (fictional, informational, digital, multimodal), enabling the children to explore their social context and think critically about content, form, and function.

4. GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP: It boosts the children’s appreciation of diversity, helping them feel included, affirmed, and empowered, understand rights and responsibilities, and develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes to cause positive impact at local and global level.

5. DIGITAL LITERACY: It instills, from a very early age, an awareness of the digital world’s power, helping children navigate it critically and sensibly, while seeking a balance between being online and offline.

6. COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT: It raises awareness of the learning experience and progress by signaling competency-building activities. Some competencies, such as Think and Learn, encourage the children to take extra time in figuring out answers through higher-order thinking skills.

7. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: It encourages communicative production from the very beginning, with speaking and writing activities introduced progressively through socially contextualized tasks.

8. AUTHENTICITY: It offers realistic context for the children to learn about culture, curriculum content, new language, and recycled language, with units and lessons based on a foundation of exposure and activation.

9. ACTIVE LEARNING: It promotes active learning through playful, kinesthetic, and engaging activities, such as games, roleplays, songs, arts, crafts, STEAM challenges, and other project-based tasks, making learning meaningful and relevant.

10. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: It fosters respect for individual differences through texts, images, and contexts that address diversity. Teachers are encouraged to explore the children’s full potentials with the aid of Specific Educational Needs booklets tailored to different stages of their learning path
